Applications | When citrulline is still an amino acid, it is not embedded in proteins in protein biosynthesis because it is not encoded for DNA, but some proteins still contain citrulline. These citrulline are produced by the peptides arginine iminase (PAD), which converts arginine to citrulline in the process of citrulline ammonification. Common proteins containing citrulline include human myelin basic protein (MBP), filaggrin and some histones. For example, cellulose and vimentin can be ammoniated by melons from cell death and tissue inflammation. |
